About
Alam Al Roum is a large-scale coastal city taking shape on Egypt's northwestern Mediterranean coast, east of Marsa Matrouh. Developed in partnership between the Egyptian government and Qatari Diar—the real estate arm of the Qatar Investment Authority—the project spans roughly 4,900 feddans (about 20.5 million square meters) with a 7.2-kilometer beachfront. Rather than a seasonal resort, the master plan, led by SOM, envisions a year-round integrated community. It includes residential neighborhoods, hotels, a marina, an 18-hole golf course, open-to-sea lagoons, commercial districts, and a free zone. The development is designed around water, with swimmable lagoons and a 22-kilometer lagoon promenade. Sustainability and smart mobility are woven into the plan, with pedestrian routes, cycling paths, and autonomous shuttles. With its scale and mix of uses, Alam Al Roum is positioned as a destination that can function across seasons, not just the summer months.
